interesting article in the Sunday Times about Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs) securing funding to build more homes.
Some of the key points in the article below:
👉 Expectation in the sector is that AHBs will step in where institutional investors have scaled back on home building.
👉 There are over 450 registered AHBs in Ireland.
👉 Collectively they manage 54,000 properties.
👉 8 of the largest housing bodies manage 2/3 of these homes.
👉 Key industry figures expect a large number of mergers and consolidations.
👉 6 of the largest AHBs plan to build 12,000 homes over the next 2 years.
This will no doubt lead to a recruitment drive over the next few years and the targeting of qualified property professionals working in the private sector.
Having worked on a large number of roles in the sector, my experience is although often not as competitive as private sector salaries the benefits, work life balance and opportunity to be part of giving back to the community is a big draw card.
